Position Summary
The mission of the Sensory Evaluation Center is three-fold: to provide training and hands-on learning opportunities to students that are interested in the fields of sensory and consumer research, to further research in the areas of sensory and consumer sciences, and to help businesses develop and improve their product offering through consumer and sensory testing. The center conducts Sensory Evaluation and Consumer Product Research. Among the standard services that are offered to Cornell community members and commercial clients are Consumer Acceptability, Preference, Discrimination Testing, and consultations in all matters Sensory (study design, questionnaire design, data analyses, etc.). The fees collected go directly back to the Department of Food Science to support student programs and research (such as student product development teams, travel to conferences and competitions, scholarships, etc.) For more information, click on:

The Sensory Evaluation Center is searching for a part-time, (typically 20-30 hours per week) assistant to facilitate sensory study administration, including but not limited to panelist recruitment, product preparation for testing, test fielding. panelist. He or she will also assist with routine test programming, routine data tabulation, occational data entry, light cleaning and inventory of supplies
This is a part-time, 20-30 hour per week, one year appointment with possibility of extension dependent on available work, continued funding and successful performance. There is potential that this position will evolve into a full-time 39 hours per week position, in the future.
Visa Sponsorship is not available for this position.
Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position.
Required Qualifications
Associate’s degree with one year of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must be detail oriented.
Must have good communication skills. Proficient in English.
Excellent customer service skills, comfortable in social situations taking with people.
Must be proactive in planning and be able to foresee and take action to plan for upcoming needs surrounding sensory studies.
Must be flexible to be available for sensory testing that occurs Monday-Friday and be available to work full-time during peak testing periods. Schedule may fluctuate depending on scheduled sensory testing.
Background check will be required.
Must be able to lift and move 10 to 20 lbs
Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience with sensory testing or market research.
Previous experience with using major social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, etc.)
