Who We Are
The Pre-Award Research Operations (PRO) team in the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) provides centralized pre-award grant proposal preparation and support for Principal Investigators (PIs) throughout the College of Engineering. The PRO team is charged with coordinating the creation, submission, and tracking of grant proposals to federal and state agencies, foundations, corporate and private sponsors. The team’s overall goals are to provide consistent, high-quality support and excellent customer service while standardizing procedures and expectations for pre-award grant proposal activity.

The Pre-Award Specialist serves as a research administration professional within PRO, accepting workflow assignments and providing the highest level of service to faculty in preparing grant proposals for timely submission. As an integral part of the research administration community and in support of the university’s overall research mission, this position requires an unwavering commitment to service and excellence in a demanding, deadline-driven environment. This position involves working closely with and serving as a liaison between faculty and staff within the college and across campus to meet proposal objectives and submission deadlines, using a variety of communications methods.
This position requires collaboration with fellow team members to ensure coverage of all departmental needs and objectives, including but not limited to routine administrative tasks, orientation of new faculty, and cross training with colleagues internally and across campus. Due to the ever-evolving nature of the work and peak proposal seasons, this position requires a willingness to flex work schedules to accommodate unforeseen challenges or high volume, and may require occasional overtime, subject to management prior approval.
As an integral part of the research administration community and in support of the university’s overall research mission, this position requires an unwavering commitment to service and excellence in a demanding, deadline-driven environment. Adaptability and flexibility to accommodate ongoing changes to internal and external policies and regulations; facilitating short lead times on proposal or project deliverables; balancing conflicting priorities; and contributing and adjusting to a continuously evolving environment are vital.
