About the School of Integrative Plant Science (SIPS)

The CALS School of Integrative Plant Science (SIPS) includes five Sections: Horticulture, Plant Biology, Plant Breeding and Genetics, Plant Pathology and Plant-Microbe Biology, and Soil and Crop Sciences. SIPS has over 100 faculty, 200 undergraduates, 200 graduate students, and 600 employees located in Ithaca, Geneva, and other locations across New York State. The school offers majors in Plant Sciences and Agricultural Sciences, plus undergraduate minors in Plant Science, Fungal Biology, Horticulture, Crop Management, Soil Science, and Plant Breeding; a Master of Professional Studies degree in Integrative Plant Science; and five graduate programs for MS and PhD students.

The Opportunity

Join us as an Undergraduate Program Coordinator at SIPS! In the role, you will be entrusted to provide programming, advising, and curriculum support for the Agricultural Sciences major, plus course support across the School of Integrative Plant Science. This position works closely with the Agricultural Sciences Director of Undergraduate Studies (DUS), the Associate Director of Teaching (ADOT), the Student Services Lead (SSL) and the Agricultural Sciences Advisory Committee (ASAC) to manage the administrative operations of the Agricultural Sciences major, including:

Coordinate and collaborate on a wide range of processes and functions for program activities, undergraduate advising, course management, and curriculum development.
Serve as the gateway to the major by interacting with prospective freshmen and transfer students.
Exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality while projecting a positive and professional image.
Liaise between faculty, students, and staff as well as with a variety of college and university offices.
Coordinate and run events for undergraduate programming, including orientation in August and commencement in May.
Co-teach PLSCI 1110, a required course for all first-year Agricultural Sciences and Plant Sciences students, in the fall semester.
Collaborate closely with the Plant Sciences Coordinator and SSL to coordinate course support for teaching faculty and staff and meet rolling university and college deadlines.
Maintain a high degree of responsibility for confidential student material.
Network with faculty and staff associated with other related majors across CALS.

Hours and Location

The Undergraduate Program Coordinator is a full-time, benefits-eligible position based at the Ithaca campus in the Academic Surge Facility A. To ensure mutual success, the initial schedule requires working on campus Monday through Friday for the first 30 days. For the next 30 days, the schedule transitions to 4 days on campus and 1 day remote per week. By 60-90 days, with supervisory approval, the position moves to a hybrid model of 3 days on campus and 2 days remote, with Wednesdays designated as an on-campus day for effective collaboration with your colleagues and students.

What We Need

Associate’s Degree and 4 to 6 years relevant experience or equivalent combination.
Experience with business or technical programs.
Excellent demonstrated written and oral communication skills.
Ability to maintain professional atmosphere in busy office setting. Must take initiative, meet challenges with resourcefulness, have ability to work independently and must be comfortable with multitasking. Must be able to work well with a variety of diverse people, including but not limited to faculty, staff, and students.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated experience with proofreading and editing materials.
Must be very adaptable as the school structure and organization evolves.
Must be able to work on weekends and weeknights for required events (limited to a few times a year).
Ability to work well with others while creating a high-quality, inclusive, and respectful work environment.
Experience that demonstrates sound judgment, creativity, management, and problem-solving skills and the ability to work well within a team of professionals.
Comfort with or willingness to learn database systems such as SmartSheets.

B.S. or B.A. degree.
Knowledge of Cornell procedures and systems.
More than 4 years’ experience in student services.
