Who We Are

Research and Innovation (RI), led by the Vice President for Research and Innovation (VPRI), enables, and advances the University’s research priorities as well as research activities of Cornell colleges, schools, and research centers, institutes, and laboratories.

The Office of Research Integrity and Assurance (ORIA) supports the Cornell research community by providing guidance on research integrity and responsible conduct of research (RCR). ORIA oversees research compliance programs for all aspects of RCR in research integrity, financial conflicts of interest related to research, export and import controls, research with live vertebrate animals, human participants, and regulated biological materials. ORIA establishes research integrity and research assurance in the following functional areas: Institutional Animal Care & Use Committee; Institutional Biosafety Committee; Institutional Review Board; Conflicts of Interest; Responsible Conduct of Research; Export Controls; and Research Security.


What You Will Do

Summary of position responsibilities:

  • Responsible for compliance with state and federal requirements and policies.
  • Participate in developing and implementing policies, procedures and guidelines to ensure continued compliance.
  • Present on education, training, and outreach programming related to compliance.
  • Develop and implement procedures, guidance, templates, forms, systems, training to facilitate compliance in a manner that is efficient, effective and minimizes administrative burden.
  • Benchmark best practices, determine opportunities for new/revised policies (and/or programs/initiatives), and provide recommendations.
  • Prepare agendas, reports, and meeting materials for IACUC meetings.
  • Manage IACUC meetings.
  • Perform independent assessments of IACUC protocols and amendments and assist IACUC committee members in review and approval.
  • Lead projects with guidance from the Manager and supports the Manager in relevant activities.
  • Collaborate successfully with researchers and colleagues in EHS, CARE, OSP, Occupational Medicine, and multiple federal agencies.
  • Guide researchers, IACUC committee members and other administrators on regulatory and policy requirements.
  • Assist in identifying gaps in adherence to regulations and policies and procedures resulting in active assistance in evaluating and minimizing gaps.
  • Other duties as assigned.

This is a one-year term position with the possibility of extension based on additional funding.

What We Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in life sciences and 5+ years’ experience in relevant subject area.
  • Experience in animal research.
  • Subject Matter Expert regarding animal research regulations and policies.

  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.


What We Prefer

Additionally, we would like to see evidence of:

  • Master’s degree or higher in the life sciences or extensive experience in animal research compliance.
  • Prior administrative experience working in a research compliance office.
  • The ideal candidate will have prior experience with Cornell systems used for research administration or protocol management (Cayuse, Novelution, RASS).

  • This position is located in Ithaca, New York. The position will allow for the flexibility to work remotely 1-2 days per week. The New York Convenience of Employer guidelines require New York State individual tax reporting and withholdings for this position.
