Cornell’s on-campus living experience is comprised of two systems that operate separately, the Office of Housing and Residential Life (HRL) unit (buildings on North and South campus) within Student and Campus Life and the West Campus House System (residential college system) within the Office of the Provost.

The Housing and Residential Life program includes cooperative houses, graduate and professional student housing, Program Houses with focused identity and/or themed living environments, a focused First-Year Residential Experience on North Campus, and a unique upper division and transfer student experience on North and South Campus. Our department serves approximately 9,200 students with a two-year residential requirement. In addition, there is significant faculty engagement in the residential communities, with faculty-in-residence living in the first-year communities and over 110 faculty and community members spread throughout all the residential communities.
The Opportunity
We are seeking an organized and proactive Office Coordinator to join the Housing Operations & Administration team. Reporting to the Director of Housing Operations & Administration, this position plays a key role in supporting the development, implementation, and assessment of Cornell’s housing program and residential experience for approximately 9,200 students.
Key Responsibilities
Office Operations & Front-Line Support:
Manage front-desk operations and daily administrative tasks.
Serve as a primary point of contact for students and families via email, phone, and text communications.
Oversee office supplies and maintain efficient workflows.
Administrative Support:
Provide scheduling and communication support for the Director and Assistant Directors.
Coordinate meetings, events, and travel arrangements.
Process purchasing and expenses while managing team logistics.
Housing Assignments & Database Management:
Assist with student housing assignments and billing processes.
Maintain accurate database records and provide support for housing-related inquiries.
Communication & Training:
Contribute to departmental communications, ensuring clear and timely messaging.
Assist with the development and delivery of training initiatives for staff and student employees.
Event Coordination:
Support major events, including student move-in/out, commencement, and Reunion Weekends.
This is a full-time (39 hours/week) endowed position that is based in Ithaca, NY and fully on-site. Typical work hours are 8:30am-5pm Monday through Friday with occasional night and weekend hours to support department events.
What You Need
We are looking for a team member who excels in customer service, demonstrates strong problem-solving skills, and communicates effectively both verbally and in writing. Additionally, you will:
Hold an Associate’s degree with two (2) to four (4) years of administrative/office experience in higher education or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Have experience managing office operations, including front desk reception, space usage, event planning, office equipment, and supplies.
Demonstrate experience hiring and supervising students or temporary workers.
Work independently, efficiently, and effectively as part of a team on projects and assignments.
Have experience overseeing departmental emails and phone calls.
Build collaborative partnerships with students, parents/families, and campus partners.
Be experienced with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, etc.), Zoom, and other web-based platforms.
Be willing to occasionally work nights and weekends, as needed.

Knowledge of housing and residential life operations.
Experience working in a complex organizational setting.
Experience working with college students and parents/families.
Experience working with StarRez housing management systems or similar housing management programs.
