HR Specialist – Employee Relations and Retention
Remote in NY State ONLY - must be able to attend meetings in Syracuse
Location: Remote (Preferred: Albany, Syracuse, Binghamton, Watertown, Ithaca, Oneonta, Plattsburgh, Poughkeepsie, NY)
Compensation: $25.00 - $28.85 per hour (Non-Exempt)
Work Arrangement: Primarily remote with occasional in-person meetings and travel

Position Overview
We are seeking an HR Specialist to support Employee Relations and Retention initiatives, focusing on investigations, coaching, and retention strategies across multiple locations. Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, this role will collaborate with HR leadership to enhance workforce satisfaction, strengthen employee relations, and ensure compliance with HR policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Employee Relations & Investigations:
- Conduct workplace investigations and partner with employee relations leads.
- Provide guidance on performance management, coaching, and disciplinary actions.
- Advise managers on addressing employee behavior and performance concerns.
- Employee Retention & Engagement:
- Analyze stay, exit, and new hire interviews to identify retention trends.
- Manage employee recognition programs (e.g., anniversary, referral bonuses).
- Coordinate and oversee the annual All-Staff Conference, including event logistics and vendor management.
- HR Programs & Compliance:
- Assist with employee engagement surveys and ensure HR compliance with labor laws and company policies.
- Collaborate with HR leadership to improve communications and engagement strategies.
Qualifications
- Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field.
- At least 3 years of experience in employee relations and retention.
- Strong knowledge of performance management and disciplinary processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HRIS systems (Paycom preferred).
- Understanding of employment laws and HR compliance.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license (NY or contiguous states) or ability to travel as needed.
- Preferred:
- Experience in human services, healthcare, or nonprofit settings.
- HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP).
- Bilingual (Spanish or other languages).
Work Environment & Travel
- Primarily remote with occasional travel (approx. once per month) for events and conferences.
Compensation & Benefits
- Hourly Rate: $25.00 - $28.85 per hour.
