Department Summary:
ERIE21 is a bold, visionary initiative designed to address our region’s twin problems of persistently high poverty in Syracuse and the inability of employers to attract and retain the skilled workers needed to fill current job openings in CNY. Serving as both a comprehensive and a long-term strategy, ERIE21 strengthens the region’s capacity to develop a pathway that will generate homegrown employees to feed the growing demand for technology and innovation talent. ERIE21 features four virtual “locks” that function as follows:
Lock 1 introduces Syracuse middle school students to coding, robotics, engineering and quantitative reasoning. Year-round Lock 1 supports academic achievement for vulnerable students while introducing them to exciting technology career pathways.
Lock 2 provides high school students with academic support and an emphasis on college and career readiness. Lock 2 leverages partnerships to improve graduation rates and empowers at-risk students to dream and work toward new possibilities for their futures and careers.
Lock 3 provides programs to prepare young adults currently enrolled at Le Moyne College for our rising innovation economy. Through an interdisciplinary approach to technology, ERIE21 equips students with career-building support in tech and innovation fields.
