Position Summary:
The Medical Assistant Team Lead will oversee the medical assistant staff in a primary care office under the supervision of the Nursing Manager. This role is essential in ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care, maintaining efficient office operations, and fostering a culturally competent environment. The Team Lead will mentor staff, support patient interactions, and collaborate with healthcare providers to enhance overall patient experiences.
Job Responsibilities:
- Supervision and Leadership:
Lead and mentor a team of medical assistants, providing guidance and support under the Nursing Manager's supervision. - Schedule and assign daily tasks to medical assistants to optimize workflow and ensure efficiency.
- Onboard and train new Medical Assistants.
Patient Care:
- Works side by side with Registered Nurse (RN) and Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to assist with all responsibilities including phone calls, rooming patients and daily checklists.
- Prepare records from external consultations for provider to review and send to consulting providers for new referrals or diagnostic procedures. Obtain and send medical records as requested by nursing and/or providers.
- Review schedule for the following day for follow-ups and the following week for new patients, ensure medical records are available for the scheduled provider.
- Facilitate transportation arrangements and communicate with patients in need as applicable.
- Ensure rooms are stocked with medical supplies, forms and educational materials.
- Perform point of care testing per policies and procedures: EKG, phlebotomy, urine collection and others as assigned by registered nurse.
- Obtain vital signs and communicate patient needs to nursing and providers as directed.
- Enter patient history questionnaire and clinical information into the electronic medical record as needed.
- Attend and participate in quality improvement initiatives, team meetings and huddles.
- Demonstrate the values of diversity, equity and belonging; foster an inclusive environment that facilitates diversity.
- Other duties as assigned.
Operational Management:
- Monitor and maintain inventory of medical supplies and equipment, ensuring readiness for patient care.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations (including infection control and prevention) and clinic/agency policies.
- Implement and maintain efficient office procedures to enhance patient flow and satisfaction.
- Works with Nurse Manager to coordinate scheduling for the Medical Assistants to ensure adequate coverage during hours of operation.
- Other duties as assigned.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with physicians, nursing staff, and administrative teams to coordinate cohesive patient care.
- Communicate effectively with patients regarding their treatment plans, addressing any concerns or questions.
- Foster an environment of cultural confidence by understanding and respecting diverse backgrounds and health beliefs.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a medical assistant, with supervisory experience preferred, experience in a primary care setting is a plus.
- Knowledge of medical procedures and medical terminology.
- Ability to take and follow through with delegated tasks and accountability.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
- May require standing for extended periods and lifting light to moderate weights.
Hourly Rate: $25.00/hour
