Maintains a positive educational milieu using best practice care delivery standards. Manages existing and new programs, with a goal of improving the quality of resident care through education, proper training, remediation and evaluation of staff.
Monday through Friday - Days (no weekends)
• Collaborates with management to evaluate and prioritize all clinical training and educational processes, systems, needs and requests, consistent with current education/competency standards, regulatory requirements, quality initiatives, best practices in care delivery, and efficiencies.
• Manages educational projects from concept to classroom.
• Creates and oversees the distribution of a monthly calendar of all in-service events.
• Creates or purchases instruction material and training tools, incorporating into existing inservice programs as necessary.
• Collaborates with interdepartmental committees to set up best practice standards and job success programs with a goal of facilitating the recruitment of qualified candidates.
• Develops, leads and participates in orientation processes and activities for new clinical employees. Assists in developing, maintaining and distributing orientation materials for new employees.
• Orients new staff and promotes professional upgrading of all clinical personnel.
• Follows up on progress for learning requirements and competencies.
• Monitors effectiveness of educational programs. Initiates modifications to address deficiencies in programs.
• Meets with management and staff to assist in identifying and correcting problem areas with a goal of improving care delivery and services.
• Assists in developing, directing, and scheduling yearly competencies and training as necessary.
• Oversees the documentation of in-service and training activities in accordance with regulatory and corporate requirements, as well as Quality Assurance purposes. Develops and monitors effective recording and reporting processes. Maintains educational records tracking employee attendance at in-service or outside programs.
• Collaborates and creates tracking reports to support the education of other department employees (i.e., reorientation and corporate directives).
• Keeps the Director of Clinical Services and nursing leadership informed of training activities.
• Plays an active role on educational committees and in process improvement initiatives.
• With the interdisciplinary team, monitors effectiveness of existing policy and procedures related to delivery of care. Initiates modifications and supplemental training as required.
• Collaborates on corporate policy and procedure updates and all pertinent third party regulations. Recommends and implements educational solutions as required.
• Participates in regulatory surveys and, when necessary, implements a plan of correction for deficiencies in collaboration with other managers.
• Attends, participates in and evaluates workshops, seminars etc. to keep abreast of current changes in teaching techniques in the health care field.

• Manages and supervises assigned personnel, including performance management, scheduling, and orientation. With the Director and Human Resources guidance, makes or approves recommendations on employee hires, transfers, promotions, salary changes, disciplinary actions, terminations and similar actions. In conjunction with HR, resolves grievances and other personnel problems in a fair, timely and consistent manner.
• May have input to or recommendations for operating budgets.
• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing and currently licensed in NY.
• Bachelor’s degree required. MSN or Master's Degree in nursing, education, or related study preferred.
• Minimum 5 years combined experience in an acute care facility and/or caring for the elderly, including a minimum of 3 years teaching experience.
• 3 years managerial or supervisory experience.
• Knowledge of DOH and applicable third party regulations.
• Experience with the state survey process.
• Proven leadership capabilities and a demonstrated ability to lead, guide and motivate others.
• Outstanding presentation, written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, staff, families, and support agencies.
• Highly proficient in MS Office programs and able to learn new software rapidly.
