Professional Rank and Salary Range: $68,000 - $78,000, dependent on qualifications Duration: Calendar Year (this position follows a 12-month schedule) Brief Description of Duties: SUNY Morrisville is seeking an Assistant Director of Facilities (Sustainability and Energy Management). SUNY Morrisville seeks a dedicated, experienced, collaborative Assistant Director of Facilities professional to help lead Facilities Operations and Maintenance as an extension of the Director of Facilities at times with primary responsibility or oversight of Sustainability, Energy, and Building Automation and Emergency Management systems. The right person will be a motivated, customer centric, high integrity leader. The Assistant Director of Facilities for SUNY Morrisville will have indirect oversight of for maintaining 1.6 million square feet of built environment and direct oversight to provide exceptional customer service to support of our campus mission. The campus includes the main campus proper, and a group of properties including a satellite campus in Norwich, NY, the equine complex, and the dairy complex. This person will have oversight of Sustainability and Energy Management, and our Building Automation & Emergency Management Systems Supervisor will directly report to this person. This synergy in consistent with our commitment to remain in the forefront of green energy transition ushered in by New York States Climate Leadership and how SUNY is using Sustainability programs and engagement to meet or exceed the requirements of New York State's Executive Order 22. This role currently reports to our Director for Facilities, and closely collaborates with the other areas of Facilities including Design & Construction with central constituencies across the campus including the Vice President for Administration & Finance, Human Resources, Director of Residence Life & Residential Education, Technology Services, Environmental Health & Safety, University Police, our academic deans and associated faculty to ensure appropriate standards for operations and maintenance are met, leading and continuously improving our commitment to being a sustainable green institution, and align with campus goals. Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Sustainability: - Collaborate with and lead our SUNY Morrisville Sustainability Council, core team, and engaged campus stakeholders to continue our work with the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE)
- Administrative oversight for AASHE's Sustainability Tracking Assessment and Rating System (STARS) program or reporting tool.
- Coordinate overall campus-wide energy management efforts including compliance efforts with New York State Executive Order 22.
- Help coordinate student focused sustainability events, outreach opportunities, and community awareness.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate with all levels of our campus.
Energy: - Synonymous to Sustainability and Energy, our Building Automation & Emergency Management Systems Supervisor will directly report to this role.
- Collectively schedule building systems for campus need and optimized energy savings, work with technicians and BAS team to continuously retro-commission systems for optimization and comfort, train mechanical operators on controls, and optimization.
- Manage potential energy master plan initiatives, energy savings policies and other sustainability initiatives in concert with maintenance staff and Design and Construction.
- Complete and review energy project savings calculations and project costs to assess financial viability of projects and goals.
- Monitor and promote campus progress of energy project planning and savings; apply and submit documentation for NYSERDA utility programs and rebate incentives.
- Provide guidance and monitor campus efforts related to implementation of sustainable energy maintenance strategies to ensure continued savings and reduced energy footprint.
- Analyze campus data for buildings, meters, and energy use to develop metrics and reporting.
As an extension of the Director of Facilities, you will at times: - Participate in Design and Construction review meetings and provide valued feedback on potential new construction projects.
- Collaborate on and review annual departmental budget.
- Physically review the condition of the campus buildings and grounds and take appropriate measures to address acute and long-term opportunities.
- Make recommendations for capital critical maintenance spending / funding vs. operations funding and set-up projects.
Periodically prepares standard written evaluations of the work performance of subordinate staff. Other duties as assigned. Requirements: Minimum Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in building automation, facilities management, construction management, instrumentation and controls, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, electronics engineering, engineering technology, computer programming, facilities/construction, or closely related field or a relative Associates degree in the aforementioned with minimum of 10 years' experience.
- When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
Preferred Qualifications: - Working knowledge of BAS systems, e.g., Honeywell, Johnson Controls, Siemens, Emerson, Carrier, Trane with experience in automation development / architecture, security, HVAC, and lighting.
- Experience with cost analysis of energy savings measures, NYSERDA grant programs, and utility rebate applications.
- Experience with the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) Sustainability Tracking Assessment and Rating System (STARS) program or reporting tool.
- Demonstrated articulation and exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skill.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access, with knowledge of Microsoft Projects and Acrobat Adobe DC.
