Basic Job Functions:
The primary function of the Design Engineer is to design open web steel joists and steel deck and ensure that all products meet the design requirements for projects varying from small gas stations to large athletic stadiums and multimillion square foot warehouses located across the country. The Design Engineer responsibilities also include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Design work in accordance with industry standards and Vulcraft manufacturing processes
- Review contract documents such as structural drawings, architectural drawings, and project specifications
- Provide direction and technical support to detailers, shop orders, and production teammates during project design and development
- Communicate effectively with internal and external customers, including other design professionals
- Promote Vulcraft products with specifiers or at conventions
This is an entry level position. Graduating civil engineering students are encouraged to apply!
This is a salaried position with an additional ROA bonus. Occasional travel is required. Candidates must obtain the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification within 6 months of hire and pass the Professional Engineering (PE) exam within 18 months of hire.

Minimum Qualifications:
B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering (ABET accredited)
Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification, or ability to obtain within 6 months of being hired
PE License, or ability to pass Professional Engineering (PE) exam within 18 months of being hired
