Job Description: Onondaga Community College invites applications for a full-time, one-semester leave replacement position in Physics for the Spring 2026 semester. We seek a dedicated, student-centered educator who can effectively teach introductory physics courses in an open-admissions community college environment. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES - Teach a full-time load (15 credits or equivalent contact hours) during Spring 2026.
- Courses may include:
- Algebra-based Physics I or II (PHY 103/104)
- Calculus-based Engineering Physics I or II (PHY 211/212)
- General education electives (e.g., Astronomy or Physics of Light & Sound), depending on departmental needs
- Hold regular office hours and provide academic support to students.
- Maintain accurate records and participate in required departmental meetings.
- Support student learning through inclusive, evidence-based pedagogical practices.
Requirements: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Master's degree in Physics, Astronomy, Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate physics effectively.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Teaching experience at the community college level.
- Experience with introductory laboratory instruction.
- Proficiency with learning management systems (e.g., Brightspace).
- Commitment to working with diverse student populations, including first-generation and underprepared students.
Additional Information: - Salary for Assistant Professor level is $28,969 for the Spring 2026 semester.
