Job Summary
This position assists, encourages and instructs residents in their Activities of Daily Living (ADL) referencing a comprehensive care plan. Responsibilities include providing individual and comprehensive resident care in accordance with under the supervision of licensed personnel. Responsible for reporting deviations in resident status to appropriate licensed personnel. Maintains compliance with Regulatory guidelines.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Provides personal resident care and treatment according to the specified comprehensive care profile and updates file as needed.
- Assists residents with personal hygiene including bathing, shampooing, conditioning, shaving, grooming, dressing, mouth and denture care, nail care, and hair care.
- Assists with preventative skin care, wound care, ostomy, ready to use enemas and other specified treatments as needed.
- Ensures that residents are properly and comfortably clothed at all times. This includes proper footwear, undergarments, clothing, and outerwear (when needed), and/or a lap blanket (when needed).
- Assists residents to and from bathrooms, aids in use of urinals and bedpans, keeps incontinent residents clean, dry, and odor-free.
- Assists residents with meals and meal care (hand washing), assists in transportation to and from dining area. Monitors and records resident intake.
- Provides mobility assistance to residents including: transporting, positioning, lifting, turning and/or moving.
- Performs Intake/outtake care, catheter care, vital signs, ROM, and post mortem care.
- Ensures the care of resident’s personal laundry and belongings. Follows correct procedure for taking and recording vital signs.
- Cleans and maintains safe and orderly resident rooms, nursing equipment and nursing units.
- Observes residents physical condition, attitude, reaction, appetite, and behaviors and reports changes or unusual findings to supervisor. Assists in emergencies as needs.
- Provides physical and emotional comfort and safety of all residents.
- Practices correct and safe techniques in the use of equipment such as beds, siderails, scales, hover lifts, bed checks, whirlpool tub, safety devices, intercom, call bell system, gait belts, portable oxygen tanks, oximetry machine, BG machine.
- Completes documentation and recording of entries on required flow sheets, consumption records, and other worksheets.
- Completes resident/unit rounds at the beginning and end of each shift and provides thorough end of shift report to supervisor or charge nurse.
- Immediately reports any change or deviation in resident status to team leader or supervisor. Identifies resident and takes immediate appropriate action.
- Ensures the confidentiality of all residents and information obtained.
- Assists in quality assurance as directed by nurse manager.
- Reviews, signs, and implement per instruction all memos related to nursing department/unit.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities (Unit Specific)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrates autonomy, organization, assertiveness, flexibility and cooperation in performing job responsibilities
- Must be able to provide physical and emotional care to elderly and/or disabled.
- Demonstrated ability of conflict resolution and problem solving.
- Knowledge of the aging process as it relates to health care.
- Comprehension of resident rights and abuse reporting regulations.
- Knowledge of basic safety techniques as it relates to CNA role.
Education And Experience
- Must be currently registered in New York State as a Certified Nurses Aide.
- High school graduate preferred.
Working Conditions
- Requires the completion of 12 hours in-service education annually.
- Attends any mandatory training and In-Services.
- Exposed to infections, odors and peculiarities in the behavior of aged residents.
- Requires frequent walking, standing, bending, lifting, pushing and pulling during the work day. Requires pushing beds, wheelchairs and recliners in excess of approximately 200 pounds with assistance. Requires lifting, carrying, repositioning, and transferring residents who may weigh in excess of 200 pounds.

Pay Range: $16.66-$19.92/hour + 10% Shift Differential
Employee salary is based on commensurate experience and other qualifications.
