Job Summary
- Health Information Management Specialist manages the patient portal, resolves portal related issues, creates and manages all forms using Formfast, and assists with various HIM processing activities. This position also serves on the Forms Management Committee.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Manages the patient portal including emails, phone calls, and walk-ins.
- Respond to all portal-related inquiries in a timely manner to include email changes and password/ID resets.
- Properly verify identity of customers for portal-related access issues including proxy access.
- Maintain awareness of patient rights to information and proper restrictions.
- Track and trend all portal-related inquires and issues.
- Manage portal record content disputes per policy and procedure.
- Assist and provide expertise as the patient portal capabilities are expanded.
- Assist with reviewing policies to assure they include and comply with patient portal processes.
- Serve on Forms Management Committee.
- Communicate with physicians regarding patient portal topics as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities (Unit Specific)
- Excellent computer skills, proficient in computer software, including Microsoft Office Suite and Meditech Expanse.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Professionalism and business acumen appropriate for working with guests, clients, physicians, employees and volunteers.
Education And Experience
- Two years of HIM experience preferred.
- Knowledge of computer systems and use of computer software.
Working Conditions
- Work with office systems and equipment including, but not limited to, Meditech HIM-related modules, Formfast, telephone, fax machine, copy machine, CD burner.
- Will work at other Oswego Health’s Health Information Management sites as needed.
- Requires ability to lift, move, carry, push or pull up to 30 lbs. using proper body mechanics.
- Actively participates in Clinical Quality Improvement monitoring.
- Actively participate in cross-training, in-service programs, attend all mandatory classes, meetings and committees as required, complete department-specific requirements/competencies.
- Attendance ensures that job requirements are met.
- Complies with DOH requirements for annual health assessments and required immunizations.
Pay Range: $18.00-$20.00/hr
Employee salary is based on commensurate experience and other qualifications.
