HIM Clerical Coordinator
Job Title: HIM Clerical Coordinator Department: Health Information Management
Reports to: HIM Processing Supervisor Revision Date: 08/17/2020
Status: Non-Exempt
Job Summary:
The HIM Clerical Coordinator is responsible for manual and electronic chart analysis and tracking, scanning of patient records into the EMR, quality assurance checks of scanned documents, running deficiency reports, release of information and correspondence, filing, and report submission.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Analyze records for completion of required documentation and signatures.
- Respond to patient and provider inquiries in a timely manner.
- Perform procedures as assigned per policy.
- Promptly answers telephone calls.
- Provide Release of Information service.
- Report to the Supervisor/Director any patient or any other complaints.
- Maintain awareness of patient rights to information and proper restrictions.
- Assist providers in completing patient records.
- File/scan loose documents.
- Provide back-up data entry support as assigned.
- Complete all assignments/data submission in a timely manner; work on ongoing projects as assigned; assist others as requested; adapt to changes in the work load as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality in all patient and provider related information, demonstrate complete discretion when discussing patient information.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities (Unit Specific):
- Excellent computer skills; proficient in computer software, including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Professionalism and business acumen appropriate for working with guests, clients, physicians, employees and volunteers.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma
- Prior HIM experience preferred.
Working Conditions:
- Fast-paced work environment.
- Requires working at other Oswego Health HIM sites as needed.
- Requires work with office systems and equipment including Meditech Expanse, fax machine, telephone, copier, and microfilm/fiche machine, and CD burner.
- Requires the ability to lift, move, carry, push or pull up to 30 lbs. using proper body mechanics.
- Actively participates in Clinical Quality Improvement.
- Actively participates in cross-training, in-service programs; attend all mandatory classes, meetings and committees as required; complete department-specific requirements/competencies.
- Attendance ensures that job requirements are met.
- Comply with DOH requirements for annual health assessments and required immunizations.
Pay Range: $18.10-$19.10/hr
Employee salary is based on commensurate experience and other qualifications.
