Job Description:

We have a career opportunity for a Dashboard / Business Intelligence Developer. You will design, build, and sustain dashboards and reporting solutions that provide clear, actionable insights for leadership, program managers, and operational teams. This role will focus on transforming complex data into intuitive visualizations and reports that track KPIs, benchmarks, and performance trends. This role would be based in the Washington DC area. Local resources and would required to be onsite.

The Dashboard / BI Developer is a skilled report designer with strong capabilities in data visualization, KPI reporting, and storytelling with data. This role requires the ability to understand stakeholder needs, translate them into effective dashboard designs, and implement solutions using Power BI or equivalent tools.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop dashboards, reports, and visualizations that present KPIs, benchmarks, trends, and operational metrics in an intuitive and actionable format.
  • Work with analysts and stakeholders to gather requirements, define metrics, and ensure dashboards align with program and organizational objectives.
  • Build and maintain semantic models, measures, and calculations within Power BI (or comparable tools) to support consistent and accurate reporting.
  • Implement layout, navigation, and design standards that enhance usability and support executive and operational review processes.
  • Support data preparation activities in coordination with data management and analytics team members, ensuring dashboards are backed by reliable, well-structured data.
  • Perform testing and validation of dashboards to confirm data accuracy, performance, and adherence to standards.
  • Provide user support and training for dashboard consumers, including guidance on usage, interpretation, and self-service capabilities.
  • Sustain and enhance existing dashboards and reporting tools, incorporating feedback and new requirements over time.

Typical Assignments:

  • Developing new performance dashboards for leadership to monitor program execution, capital projects, and asset management metrics.
  • Updating and refactoring existing dashboards to improve usability, accuracy, and alignment with updated metrics or data sources.
  • Designing executive-level views and drill-down capabilities that support both high-level oversight and detailed analysis.
  • Collaborating with data management specialists to ensure that underlying datasets and models support dashboard needs.
  • Preparing documentation and quick-reference guides that describe dashboard structure, measures, and intended use.
  • Supporting periodic performance reviews and briefings by preparing dashboard views and supplemental visuals.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, or a closely related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of experience developing dashboards and BI solutions using tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience designing KPI dashboards, benchmark reports, and executive-level visualizations.
  • Strong understanding of data visualization best practices and ability to present complex information clearly.
  • Experience working with data models, measures, and calculations to support robust reporting.
  • Proficiency with SQL or other tools used for data preparation is preferred.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams (e.g., program management, engineering, finance) to deliver reporting solutions is a plus.
