Role Summary
The User Interface Design Engineer is responsible for designing engaging and user-friendly interfaces for commercial software products. The role works closely with department managers, software engineers, analysts, and project managers to create interfaces that are both visually appealing and easy to use.
Salary Range
$65,000 per year - $85,000 per year based upon experience.
Responsibilities
- Design engaging and user-friendly interfaces for business web pages and products, ensuring all interactions are intuitive and accessible to all users
- Contribute to our design system to create consistent user experiences and streamline the development process across our products
- Interact with Engineering for successful design implementation, and perform question-and-answer forums (QAs) to help them ensure "pixel perfect" or detailed designs
- Work with developers to iterate further on designs during implementation to ensure optimal designs
- Demonstrate ability to challenge limitations, negotiate with Engineering and make the case for designs to be implemented in a certain way
- Analyze customer responses and website data to identify high-traffic web pages and understand why some perform better than others
- Create visually appealing and consistent interfaces, including layout menus, drop-down options, colors, and fonts
- Develop storyboards to conceptualize designs and communicate project plans to clients and management
- Consider and track human-computer interaction (HCI) principles in all designs
- Conduct user research through surveys and other methods to gather feedback on ease of use
- Test completed applications, websites, and software to assess user experience and identify areas for improvement
Basic Qualifications
- Four Plus (4+) years of experience designing and prototyping user interfaces for a variety of products and services
- Experience designing user interfaces for a variety of devices and platforms, including web, mobile, and interactive dashboards
- Ability to understand and apply UX research insights to design user interfaces that are both user-friendly and meet business objectives
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to understand complex systems and requirements and translate them into user interfaces that are easy to use
- Expert knowledge of Figma and experience with Photoshop and Illustrator
- Experience with motion graphics or animations in Adobe After Effects to create engaging and informative user experiences
- Strong understanding of web standards, responsive design, usability, and accessibility standards to create user interfaces that are accessible to all users
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills, as well as an understanding of agile development methodologies
- A portfolio of work containing case studies showcasing how you frame problems, act on insights, and design best-in-class digital product experiences
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or Engineering
- Experience designing and shipping enterprise software, data products, or B2B SaaS visualization tools with complex technical requirements
- Experience building and maintaining design systems
- Demonstrated history of working within an Agile workflow
- Department of Defense Clearance of SECRET
