Business Unit Training & Simulation develops and manufactures training systems, mainly for military users. Our offer is wide-ranging and includes the provision of world-leading laser simulators for live training, force on target applications, virtual simulation capabilities and training services. Saab Training & Simulation has been contracted to provide laser-based training, simulation and support services to the Polish Armed Forces at 5 key training sites in Poland.
Your role
In this role, you will be based at our training facility in Wędrzyn and will receive full training to become the subject matter expert for all matters related to Saab’s laser-based simulation system and its wide array of applications and sub-systems. This system is vital in providing simulation and training support to the Polish Armed Forces and you will be a key player in the training set-up at your designated site.
You will report directly to the Support Manager who will be located at the main training site in Drawsko Pomorskie and who will have overall responsibility for the delivery of training services across the Combat Training Centre. He/she will also be your link into the main hub of the Polish CTC in Drawsko Pomorskie, as well as the headquarters of Saab Training & Simulation in Huskvarna, Sweden. You will lead and manage a 3-person service delivery team whose role is to ensure the optimization of Saab’s products and the effective delivery of on-site training.
As Deputy Support Manager for our Wędrzyn operation, you will play a key role in ensuring that Saab’s interests, and those of the Polish Army customer are met to the highest possible standard. You maintain all of the Polish Army’s training and simulation equipment at your site, ensuring they are maintained, distributed and configured to deliver the best possible training experience to the customer. You need to be open, loyal and honest, trust your co-workers and honour agreements, decisions and processes.
The role would suit a high-quality former military leader with a strong analytic approach and the capacity to find practical and pragmatic solutions under pressure.
Your main responsibilities will include:
Organise and lead the operations at Wędrzyn and ensure that they are carried out in accordance with the contract, local laws and regulations and defined processes, policies and strategies
Plan the operational support to the customer in your designated site, coordinating with your fellow Deputy Support Managers, and reallocating resources where necessary to achieve the best effect. Identify and resolve issues early so as not to impede the exercise tempo.
Develop a strong relationship with the Polish military customer at Wędrzyn and be their first point of contact for all training-related support requirements. Liaise and coordinate with exercise planners and leaders to maximize the effectiveness of Saab’s products and services on key training objectives.
Maintain operational availability of all equipment at the Wędrzyn site in accordance with the agreed contract, carrying out routine maintenance and repairs as necessary.
Ensure that the training systems delivered by Saab Training & Simulation are maintained and that the configuration is optimized.
Ensure spare stock holdings are fit for purpose and that they meet the requirements of the support contract.
Act quickly on requests from the customer, fulfilling them where appropriate and finding alternative solutions when needed.
Leadership and Line Management of 2 technical coworkers based at your training site in Wędrzyn.
Maintain and develop personnel competence through training, Individual Performance Management, career development and, in line with the Support Manager, salary reviews.
Lead, motivate and manage the Wędrzyn team, ensuring they have all the information, resources and support needed to succeed in their tasks. Develop the team, instilling Saab’s core values and compliance with Saab’s internal policies.
Budgetary responsibility for the Training Services operations in Wędrzyn.
Report operational status to the Support Manager in accordance with the quality procedures.
Maintain Standard Operating Procedures for the site at Wędrzyn and ensure all staff follows them.
Carry out delegated environment and risk assessment tasks, ensuring compliance with environmental legislation and internal policies, and follow up on all health and safety related issues.
Deploy on field exercises in support of Polish and multinational Armed Forces, providing field-based and back-office support to your team and the customer.
Good understanding of Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) and how to implement it to achieve operational excellence.
Experience of working in a military training environment.
Good understanding of Polish military doctrine, organisational structure and Tactics, Techniques and Procedures (TTPs)
A strong drive and focus on delivery
Strong leadership and line management experience.
Strong technical competence.
Financial & budgetary experience.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Full driving licence.
Fluency in Polish and English.
Readiness to travel internationally without restrictions. National and international travel is part of the role.
This position requires the successful applicant to be able to be granted access to Polish military establishments and therefore requires that you pass a security vetting based on the current regulations regarding security protection. For positions requiring security clearance, additional obligations on citizenship may apply.
