State University of New York Upstate Medical University
Under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, this position will prepare sterile and non-sterile medications with the focus on sterile medications including non-hazardous and hazardous medications. Stores and maintains medication inventory. Assists Clinical Pharmacists in monitoring patients. Processes Controlled Substances and troubleshoots Automated Dispensing Cabinet related problems. This employee must be able to combine order processing efficiency without compromising accuracy.
Candidates must fulfill one of the following to meet minimum qualifications:
• NYS pharmacy technician license and National Pharmacy Technician Certification.
• National Pharmacy Technician Certification plus 6 months of pharmacy technician experience, and NYS pharmacy technician license within 6 months. *Candidates who are not licensed will be on a temporary appointment until license is received.
• Associates Degree OR NYS licensed/registered LPN OR 1 year of pharmacy technician experience (or successful completion of a military or other accredited pharmacy technician training program). Will be required to receive the National Pharmacy Technician Certification within 18 months of hire and NYS pharmacy technician license within 6 months of national certification. *Candidates who are not licensed will be on a temporary appointment until license is received.
Hospital experience preferred. Previous sterile compounding experience preferred.
