The primary responsibility of the Pharmacy Patient Access Specialist includes the initial coordination of specialty medications ordered from SUNY Upstate clinics and the associated providers prior to enrollment into the specialty pharmacy program. Tasks include the processing of patient medication orders, completion of prior authorizations, manufacturer copay cards, and patient outreach on programs offered at the SUNY Upstate Outpatient Pharmacies. Ensure completion of activities that maximize revenue capture for high-cost medications. Review and evaluate take-home medications to assure the appropriateness and medical necessity of medication use based on established criteria. Improve patient service experience and Upstate Medical University Hospital retail pharmacy revenue through provision of prior authorization services at Upstate Medical University Hospital clinics.
Associate's degree and three (3) years of medical or pharmacy related experience OR Bachelors degree and one (1) year of medical or pharmacy related experience required. Will also consider candidates with five (5) years of medical or pharmacy related experience required. National Pharmacy Technician Certification within 18 months of hire required. Excellent written/oral communication, interpersonal, organizational, conflict resolution, and computer skills required. Ability to work independently.
Specialty Pharmacy Experience; NYS Licensed LPN; and/or Medical Assistant Certification preferred.
Rotating schedule between 8am-9pm weekends and holidays based on operational need.
