The Clinical Laboratory Technologist specializing in Cytogenetics performs complex laboratory testing to analyze chromosomes and genetic abnormalities for diagnostic, prognostic, and research purposes. This role involves culturing cells, preparing specimens, and conducting cytogenetic and molecular cytogenetic analyses such as karyotyping, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), and chromosomal microarray techniques. The technologist ensures accuracy, quality control, and compliance with regulatory standards while interpreting and documenting test results to support patient care.
NYS license/registration or limited permit to practice as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist and 2 years clinical lab experience required. *Candidates with a Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry or physics and less than 2 years clinical lab experience or with a NYS license/registration or limited permit to practice as a Clinical Laboratory Technician will be considered for appointment to a commensurate title and salary. Must be able to distinguish colors for the purposes of performing laboratory tests.
BS in Molecular Sciences (Cytogenetics or Molecular diagnostics). ASCP certification as a Clinical specialist in Cytogenetics.
