Job Description | The S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications is looking for a part-time instructor to be section instructor for COM 629 Advanced Social Media Strategy (3 credits). For this term, synchronous sessions will run October 2-December 30, 2024. This course will be Tuesdays 9:00-10:45pm. Course Description: Students learn relevant terminology and gain hands-on experience with industry standard tools and platforms, practice methods of evaluation with advanced analytics, craft search strategy, and observe trends to drive strategy, content, and achieve business goals. Common digital team structures and best practices in management of digital teams will also be covered. Themes explored during the course: ● New in Tech & Trends (AI focus) ● Big Data & Decisions: Where does it come from/how we do it/what it tells us/discussion of tools ● Advertising, PR, Marketing and Social Media (Paid, Earned, Shared, Owned; INTEGRATION) ● Journalism & Social (multimedia journalism) ● Visual Storytelling Techniques & Strategies ● Advanced Social Analytics and Google Analytics – Beyond the platforms ● Management of Digital Teams. Customer Experience and Expectations ● Data Driven Insights on Influence ● Corporate Social Responsibility/ Corporate Activism ● Ethics & Law ● Advanced social strategy – it’s integrated ● Personas/Segmentation ● KPIs ● SEO/SEM ● Moz Keyword Strategy ● Content Creation/Curation ● Presentation |
Qualifications | Master’s or Doctoral degree preferred. Significant teaching and/or professional experience in the field. |

Responsibilities | View the asynchronous content in advance of each weekly live session. Conduct discussions for each week’s live session based on direction from the coordinator of COM 629. Be available to meet for these discussions on the online platform provided. Follow guidance of coordinator on topics related to the asynchronous material, student questions and progress, assignments, and exams, and the introduction of timely topical news and information that may apply to course concepts, relevant case studies and articles. Additional responsibilities include: • Meet all designated class periods. • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours. • Grade any assignments and exams in a timely manner based on instructions/rubrics provided. • Submit completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations. • Attend immersion sessions, if invited, when offered. |
