| Job Description | IST632 Management and Organization of Special Collections: The course covers the principles, methods, and techniques of management, development and organization of special collections such as rare books, archives, or pictorial materials, including issues such as bibliographic services and preservation. The course also includes a survey of the history of the book as well as a final project centered around the teaching with primary sources. After taking this course, students will be able to: · List major developments in the history of the book and contextualize these developments within the framework of major historic developments, · Explain the role of special collections within the academic library framework, · Explain the concept of reparative collecting · Evaluate special collections development policies and user manuals. · Apply the basic principles of descriptive bibliography · Design a primary source-based instruction session under recourse to RBMS/SAA’s Guidelines of Primary Source Literacy as well as ACRL’s Framework of Information Literacy |
| Qualifications | MS in Library Science or Information Science and at least 2 years work experience with special collections. |

| Responsibilities | Successful candidates will be prepared to serve as instructor and mentor and be willing to work with the Professor of Record, Program Director, and other instructors teaching this class. This course has a developed syllabus, exercises, and texts, however, we seek individuals who can bring their own experiences to the course. • Collaborate with professor of record and/or program director, who is responsible for creating the course syllabus and course content, as well as providing an overview of their overall vision for the course. • Attend onboarding and training with the iSchool’s Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning • Maintain office hours and open communication with students. • Grade student assignments and exams in a timely manner; provide feedback when appropriate. • Prepare for a weekly 90 minute class session with students. • Prepare to offer the class in the Winter 2025 online quarter term. |
