Job Description
The primary function of the Communications and Events Coordinator is to support the School of Education’s Center on Disability and Inclusion (CDI) and its arms including the Taishoff Center and InclusiveU by planning and executing communications and events that align with the Center’s mission and engage with key constituent groups. This position will organize events, create and manage marketing content, oversee social media, manage and update multiple websites, oversee digital and print asset creation, and create and operationalize an overall marketing plan.

This position is part of a bargaining unit and is represented by the union SEIU, Local 200United.
Education and Experience
  • B.S./B.A in communications, marketing, design, or related field, or combination of education and experience.
  • Three (3+) plus years of experience preferred.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Excellent communications and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • Manage multiple projects at one time.
  • Working knowledge of web technologies (WordPress content management system, HTML and CSS), graphics software (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience in event coordination and logistics preferred.
  • Knowledge of current trends and best practices in marketing preferred.
  • Familiarity with Accessibility Standards and best practices, visual and physical accessibility as well as event -guidelines for beyond compliance.
  • Experience interacting with people with disabilities preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Manage CDI and Taishoff Center social media including short- and long-term content calendars, creating and scheduling content on existing platforms, aligning with University-wide campaigns and content, and evaluating new platforms for potential expansion of CDI presence. Evaluate analytics and performance to increase effectiveness.
  • Manage multiple small and large scale events for the Centers/InclusiveU including campus lectures, workshops, InclusiveU orientation and information sessions. Collaborate across campus for partner events including SOE Graduation, Disability Pride Week, Orange Central, etc. Work with vendors to secure locations, catering, AV/tech. Represent the Centers at tabling events.
  • Manage content on the CDI (and associated centers) website, making updates as needed, and scheduling annual or other regular content reviews for static/evergreen content. Optimize content for search engine performance. Analyze web analytics statistics to find trends of well-performing content, search engine problems, and general effectiveness.
  • Creation of email content for digital newsletters, development appeals, announcements, event advertising, and other needs. Scheduling and coordination with campus email sending teams and in-house email marketing system.
  • Collaborate with student marketing assistants and freelance vendors with creation of graphics, photos, fliers, slides, documents, templates, and other digital (and sometimes both digital and physical) media for all managed platforms (web, social media, email, signage etc.) as well as other uses as they arise from the CDI.
