Job Description	The Program Coordinator, First Year Seminar (FYS 101) will be an integral member of the leadership team to ensure the success of FYS 101. FYS 101 is a required semester-long course anchored around transitioning to college and creating a sense of belonging within the Syracuse University community. Course content includes dialogue around topics related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA). All FYS 101 sections are led by a faculty, staff, or graduate student Lead Instructor and an undergraduate Peer Leader through a co-facilitation model. The Program Coordinator supervises the undergraduate Student Assistants that provide administrative support to the team, focusing on creating a welcoming and inviting environment in the FYS 101 suite, and FYS 101 Peer Leaders, including providing training, professional development, and mentorship, along with recruitment and approving weekly hours. The Program Coordinator also monitors overall student attendance trends and other logistical tasks to support the FYS 101 program. The incumbent will be a key member of the team responsible for program coordination and on-going development, including curricular activities updates and connections to campus resources. This position is part of a bargaining unit and is represented by the union SEIU, Local 200United.
Education and Experience	Bachelor’s Degree in related field required. Two (2+) plus years of experience working with college students in an advising or leadership development capacity. Qualified applicants will have completed courses and/or trainings related to college student development, curriculum design, diversity/social justice, gender/sexuality studies, ethnic studies, disability studies and/or international relations. Must have prior experience planning workshops and group facilitation. Experience using Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Qualtrics, and Zoom is strongly desired. Master’s degree with previous experience creating, developing, and managing programming for first year, transfer and historically underrepresented college students preferred. Knowledge of active learning pedagogy and experience in curriculum design and training is highly desired.
Skills and Knowledge	Professionalism, maturity, and superior interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills as well as the ability to work effectively and independently with a wide variety of stakeholders. Organized with capability of handling multiple/diverse tasks and projects simultaneously. Creative, self-directed, and a self-starter with the ability to work, plan, research, and conduct projects with minimal supervision and on a flexible schedule.
Responsibilities	Serves as the supervisor and primary point of contact for Peer Leaders and Student Assistants; completes all tasks related to managing and supporting FYS 101 Peer Leaders and Student Assistants, including approving student payroll. Plan the recruitment, selection, and training processes for FYS 101 Peer Leaders and Student Assistants; support the professional development of Peer Leaders. Provide logistical support by monitoring attendance and other associated tasks necessary for the operation and execution of FYS 101. Assist the Director and Associate Director in the development of course activities and facilitator support resources. Other duties as assigned.
