Job Description
The Associate Director of Admissions and Recruitment leads the enrollment management strategy for the School of Education (SOE), overseeing recruitment and the admissions process for the School’s graduate programs (master’s, CAS, and doctoral) in education as well as its undergraduate programs, including the Bachelor of Science in Social Work (BSSW) program. Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Student Success, the Associate Director supervises the Program Manager, who supports the Associate Director across many of the responsibilities outlined below.

The Associate Director directs the development and execution of the recruitment strategy and communication plan across the graduate and undergraduate portfolio and manages the School’s overall enrollment plan in collaboration with the Assistant Dean for Student Success. The Associate Director serves as the primary liaison between SOE programs, the Graduate School, Undergraduate Admissions, and University admissions partners, and represents SOE at university and external councils, conferences, and recruiting events, both on and off campus. The Associate Director also collaborates and coordinates with the Master of Social Work (MSW) program to ensure consistency between practices and processes wherever possible.

This position is part of a bargaining unit and is represented by the union SEIU, Local 200United
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
  • Five or more years of experience in higher education, with a focus on admissions and recruitment or equivalent experience required, including demonstrated experience leading enrollment strategy. Experience with both graduate and undergraduate admissions preferred.
  • Knowledge of current University systems (SLATE, PeopleSoft, Microsoft Office).
  • Ability to travel.
  • Familiarity with academic institutions (higher education and K-12) helpful.

Responsibilities
Recruitment Strategy and Communications
  • Lead the development and execution of the recruiting strategy for School of Education (SOE) graduate and undergraduate programs in education as well as the Bachelor of Science in Social Work (BSSW) program
  • Direct the development, maintenance, and execution of the SOE communication plan to prospective and admitted students
  • Collaborate with SOE marketing and communications team on producing and maintaining promotional materials (website, brochures, videos, etc.) and solicit program input to inform review and editing
  • Provide oversight of recruitment communication and support for SOE programs across all aspects of the admissions process, including setting up program interviews when required
  • Coordinate and direct the efforts of graduate and undergraduate faculty involved in recruitment in collaboration with Faculty Directors and program coordinators
  • Coordinate undergraduate recruitment activities for SOE undergraduate degree programs and the BSSW program, including building and maintaining relationships with high schools, community colleges, and transfer feeder institutions to develop a pipeline of prospective undergraduate students
  • Partner with Undergraduate Admissions on campus visit and tour programming, articulation agreements, and transfer student recruitment, and represent SOE undergraduate and BSSW programs at recruitment events

Inquiry Generation and Events
  • Direct the generation of graduate and undergraduate inquiries through mass mail, email campaigns, and social media
  • Organize and oversee college-wide and program-level virtual information sessions, including invitations, RSVP management, and follow-up with SOE program materials
  • Lead coordination of open house activities for prospective graduate and undergraduate students
  • Communicate with and counsel prospective students regarding program options and application processes via email, phone, Zoom, and in-person appointments
  • Maintain thorough understanding of program requirements and international student policies related to visas and other documentation
  • Support melt reduction efforts through targeted outreach to matriculated students and lead planning and coordination of student orientations
  • Collaborate with the Academic and Student Services team and coordinate with student leaders and staff — including Peer Advisors and other groups — to support inquiry generation and events

Admissions and Enrollment Management
  • Lead, advise, and direct the workflow process for graduate and undergraduate applications and serve as the primary liaison with the Graduate School and Undergraduate Admissions
  • Direct the record keeping of prospective students from inquiry to enrollment and oversee the online application process for the School
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Dean for Student Success on the development, coordination, and implementation of the School’s overall graduate and undergraduate enrollment plan, including recruitment and admissions budget and expenditures
  • Refresh training and instructional materials for SLATE

Data, Reporting, and Awards
  • Obtain, track, and analyze admissions data across graduate and undergraduate programs
  • Provide reports to program areas to support recruitment and admission decision activities
  • Develop, maintain, and interpret data to support recruitment activities and resulting admissions
  • Compile special reports and gather information as needed by the School and individual programs
  • Collaborate with the business office to organize the graduate award process for SOE percent-based discounts and scholarships, and manage special international scholarships and awards
Liaison to Campus Admissions and External Councils
  • Serve as the face of SOE admissions on and off campus, including representing the School of Education’s graduate and undergraduate programs to the University community and the public
  • Attend recruiting functions sponsored by SU and local feeder colleges and universities, and participate on relevant University and external admissions councils and committees
