THALES are looking to recruit a Site Engineering Manager (SEM) for the Voyager Academy at Brize Norton.
You will be responsible for managing a team of 5 maintenance engineers who will support, service and repair the STE to achieve as a minimum the contract key performance maintenance criteria and UK CAA approvals.

What will you deliver?
- Maintain and refresh Maintenance Programme plans for the STE.
- Allocate STE engineers to conduct all preventative maintenance activities in accordance with the Maintenance Programme for the STE, and any corrective maintenance activities
- Ensure that all maintenance activities are recorded and tracked, including corrective action to rectify Service Failures and or Facility Deficiencies in collaboration with the Compliance Monitoring Manager
- Ensure that Service Failures and/or Facility Deficiencies associated with STE are logged
- Ensure rectification time of Service Failures and/or Facility Deficiencies associated with the STE is logged
- Ensure that an inventory management system that will monitor the use of spares and their repair cycles is maintained
- On a monthly basis prepare the reliability and availability statistics for the STE § Ensure Cloning and storage of Software is carried out in accordance with the contract
- Manage technical refreshes of the information technology hardware and software to support the Contract.
- Management of configuration control in accordance with the STE configuration management plan
- Perform the annual validation checks of the STE, including running 100%of the Qualification Test Guide per year.
- Management of obsolescence of STE hardware and software
- Ensure implementation of a software backup and recovery process
- Ensure On-Going training is delivered.
- Monitor the delivery of this training through staff development planning
- The STE engineers will ensure that the instructor operating station and ownership databases are updated as per Authority supplied digital aeronautical flight information file
- Incorporation into the delivered TDB, updates to the visual databases as required.
- Ensure consumables are replenished when required, in accordance with the respective STE manufacturer processes for consumable replenishment. The consumption of consumable will be monitored on a monthly basis
- The Site Engineering Manager shall be responsible for the management and configuration control of STE spares.
- Ensure obsolescence monitoring activities for the Facility are carried out
- Controlling the maintenance workload and ensuring effective and efficient use of staff to maintain the highest standards of equipment maintenance
- Ensuring that holdings of Air Publications, orders, drawings and instructions relating to the STE are to the latest revision/amendment levels and are adequate to support the task and that any shortcomings are reported to the appropriate authority.
- Ensuring that the holdings of tools and test equipment are fit for use and sufficient for the task.
- Ensuring that maintenance, testing and operation of the STE is carried out in accordance with current regulations and orders by qualified employees and that:
- The correct engineering practices and procedures are employed, i.e. the appropriate Health and Safety precautions are observed and the necessary documentation records are completed to the Site Quality Plan.
- Ensuring no unauthorised modifications are carried out on any equipment under their control.
- Liaise with customer Engineering departments to ensure efficient investigations into developments and rectification of faults by using Crewnet documents.
Who are we looking for?
The ideal candidate will be acceptable to the UK CAA as the nominated person for ensuring Flight Simulator Training Device Compliance Management, as defined by UK regulation ORA.GEN.210, and will therefore have a proven record of accomplishment in Flight Simulator Engineering Management, including:
- Thorough understanding of UK CAA regulatory requirements for Flight Simulator Training Device (FSTD) initial approval.
- Experience of the requirements to support a UK CAA FSTD re-certification audit and the management of preventative and correction actions necessary to reach closure for any findings raised by such an audit.
- Knowledge of the differences between UK CAA FSTD requirements and the equivalent Military Airworthiness Authority (MAA) regulatory articles.
- Experience of maintenance planning and scheduling to ensure that the engineering team covers the full FSTD qualification test guide (QTG) within an annual recurring cycle.
- Experience of managing customer expectations and of communicating escalating FSTD performance concerns within defined timeframes.
- Experience of motivating team members to support varying customer tasking demands.
- Experience of oversight of FSTD defect rectification and through life support engineering tasks to ensure conformance to company protocols / regulatory standards are maintained.
- The ideal candidate will have completed the UK CAA FSTD Certification and Qualification course (or equivalent)
This role will require SC Clearance. It would be advantageous if currently held, however, if not currently held, it is a requirement that the successful applicant will undergo, achieve, and maintain SC Clearance. Please visit the UKSV website for further guidance.
To be eligible for full SC, you generally need to have resided in the UK for the last 5 years. In some circumstances, a minimum of 3 years’ residence in the UK over the last 5 years may be accepted, with additional overseas checks.
