Job Overview
The PET Production Manager plays a key role in executing assigned Production tasks. This role is responsible for coordinating with Processing, Maintenance, Quality, Supply Chain, and Engineering to support commissioning and startup activities, resolve downtime and performance issues, manage packaging design changes, and address quality failures.
Key Responsibilities
- This role owns PET performance, and specifies metrics of responsibility such as OEE, throughput, and schedule attainment.
- This role is responsible for coordinating Processing, Maintenance, Quality, Supply Chain, and Engineering to support commissioning and startup activities, resolve downtime and performance issues, manage packaging design changes, and address quality failures.
- Manages and directs activities of assigned staff, ensuring product adheres to Byrne Cortlandville’s standards of safety, quality, and throughput.
- Maintains effective working relationships with team members through open communication, visibility, and involvement to promote a positive working environment that maximizes safety, employee engagement, productivity, and throughput.
- Analyzes the production schedule prior to start of production and adjusts assignments of team members in order to meet production targets.
- Inspects raw materials prior to changeovers to ensure correct inventories for production runs. Performs first quality checks after changeovers to prevent non-conforming product.
- Responsible for team member coaching and development, employment decisions, and resolving issues through conflict resolution. Hires, trains, coaches, and reviews performance of team members.
- Partners with Human Resources and Operations Manager for recruitment, corrective actions, and terminations. Participates in interviews with hiring managers.
- Collaborate with Maintenance Department to resolve downtime occurrences on assigned production lines.
- Utilizes the Packaging Line Monitoring System (PLMS) and other tools to generate shift reports for OEE, production, downtime, attendance, overtime, and quality checks.
- Conducts walkthroughs throughout the various shifts to ensure compliance with safety, quality, production, and 5s standards.
- Interfaces with multiple departments within the organization to ensure customer deadlines are met.
- Conducts daily and monthly staff meetings to review production, OEE, and quality performance against targets.
- Conducts hourly safety walks and conducts weekly “safety talks” with assigned staff.
- Work closely with GEA to develop and schedule rebuild events in addition to negotiating contracted annual work with GEA.
- Adheres to the highest standards of company and plant safety programs, guidelines, rules, and regulations.
- Abides by Byrne Cortlandville’s Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Food Safety Standards at all times. Recommends, develops, and implements measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality standards. Suggests changes in work conditions and use of equipment to increase the efficiency of team members.
- Monitors, reviews, and approves assigned team members’ time and attendance for accuracy using UltiPro platform.
- Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the job. The ability to work 12-hour shifts on a rotating schedule, or as dictated by production demand, is also an essential function of the job.
- Carry out other tasks issued by leadership.
Min. Qualifications
- A minimum of GED or High School Diploma is required.
- 4 Years – Experience in Field or similar manufacturing environment
- 4 Years – Experience managing people / projects.
- Ability to obtain Better Process Control School (BPCS) certificate.
- Mechanical skills relevant to the assigned equipment.
- Experience managing high-speed PET lines (GEA, Sidel, Krones, Serac, etc.)
- Experience leading multi-shift production teams.
- Experience in aseptic, ESL, or extended shelf-life manufacturing environments.
- Experience with OEE, TPM, RCA, and other lean manufacturing methods.
